What is powder coating, and how does it differ from traditional paint?
Powder coating is a dry finishing process where a fine powder is electrostatically applied to a surface and then cured in an oven. Unlike traditional liquid paint, powder coating doesn’t require solvents and produces a more durable, uniform, and environmentally friendly finish.
What materials can be powder coated?
Various materials, such as metals (steel, aluminium), certain plastics, and even wood, can be powder coated to provide a durable and decorative finish.
How long does powder coating last?
When properly applied and maintained, powder coating can last for many years, offering excellent resistance to corrosion, chipping, scratching, and fading.
Can you powder coat over pre-painted materials?
Many pre-painted materials are coated in a ‘wet spray’ or automotive paint. This is not designed to withstand the heat associated with powder coat curing (around 200 degrees Celsius) and will blister, flake and ultimately fail. This should be removed via sandblasting prior to powder coating.
